Understanding materials is crucial to effective conservation and restoration work and we keep abreast of current best practice.

Timber

We hold a good stock of 17th , 18th and 19thC timber and veneers.

Metalwork

Metalwork will be sensitively replaced-casting form original components and taking the time to gild and colour the metalwork to produce very good matches.

Glass and mirror

Old glass and mirror can be sourced.

Leather

A range of leathers and tooling is available but leather can also be matched.

Glues, consolidants

Care is taken to use appropriate glues including fish glue, animal glue, paraloids and epoxy resins of varying viscosities.

Finishing materials

Shellacs, waxes, oils and careful use of solvents to rework and repair original surfaces.
